Display the Most Recent Child Record within a Report

Julkaisupäivä: Jul 5, 2026
Kuvaus

This article explains a current Salesforce platform limitation when working with Salesforce Reports. It is not currently possible to display only the most recent child record within a Report without custom code. Users who need to show the latest related record — for example, the most recent Case Comment, Activity, or child object entry — per parent record will encounter this limitation. Standard Salesforce reporting does not natively support filtering to show only the newest child record per parent.

Ratkaisu

Salesforce does not currently support displaying only the most recent child record in a Report using standard Report features. Vote on the following IdeaExchange ideas to help prioritize this feature, and consider the workarounds below.

Report Filter: ONLY the most recent Activity for each Parent Record
Report only the Most Recent Case Comment

Until this feature is delivered, consider the following workarounds:

  • Use a custom formula field on the child object to flag the "latest" record, then filter your Report on that flag.
  • Use Apex or Flow to stamp a "most recent" boolean field on the parent record when a child is created/updated.
  • Use Salesforce Reports with a "Summary" format and custom groupings to approximate recency-based filtering.
