Insufficient Privileges Error When Importing Custom Objects Using Data Import Wizard in Salesforce Essentials

Description

A system administrator attempting to import custom object records using the Data Import Wizard in a Salesforce Essentials Edition org may encounter the following error:
"You do not have sufficient permissions to import custom objects"
This error occurs when the Import Custom Objects permission is not enabled for the user's profile. This article explains how to resolve the error by enabling the permission via a Permission Set.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. From Setup, type Import into the Quick Find box.
  2. Click Data Import Wizard.
  3. Click Launch Wizard.
  4. Click the Custom Objects tab.

The error appears when the Import Custom Objects permission is missing.

Résolution

To resolve this error, enable the Import Custom Objects permission by assigning a Permission Set to the affected user.

Enable Import Custom Objects via Permission Set

  1. From Setup, enter Permission Sets in the Quick Find box, then select Permission Sets.
  2. Click New.
  3. Enter your permission set information.
  4. Select the types of users for the permission set and click Save.
  5. Click System Permissions and click Edit.
  6. Check the box for Import Custom Objects and click Save.
  7. Click Manage Assignments.
  8. Click Add Assignments.
  9. Select the affected user, click Assign, and click Done.
