Test Google Analytics Tracking Code on Account Engagement Assets

If you have Google Analytics tracking code - also referred to as UTM parameters - added to your Account Engagement Assets, you can test your links to make sure they are set up correctly.

Google Analytics data appears on new prospect records that originate from Google Analytics tagged links. If a prospect has engaged with Account Engagement tracked content prior to that prospect clicking on your Google Analytics tagged link, you can expect Google Analytics metrics not to update their prospect record. For this reason, you must test your links with a new Account Engagement prospect. 

To test that the Google Analytics-tagged links on your Account Engagement Assets:

1. Go to Prospects 
2. Create New Prospect 
3. Enter a previously unused email address 
4. Save prospect
5. Open an Incognito window to ensure no cookies are in your browser 
6. Place your UTM tracked link into the browser. It should look something like this with the desired values placed after the equal signs in the link. The specific values to fill in are represented by the "xxxxx" values below:  

     https://company.com/landing-page-name/?utm_source=xxxxx&utm_medium=xxxxx&utm_term=dxxxxx&utm_content=xxxxx&utm_campaign=xxxx

7. Navigate to your newly created prospect record in Account Engagement and scroll down to the Google Analytics portion of the prospect record to verify submission.

Note: If you are iframing your Account Engagement form into an external page, ensure that you are passing the parameters into the iframe.


How to troubleshoot if you do not see values here:

  • Ensure the syntax in your link matches exactly to the example above.
  • Verify Account Engagement tracking code is added onto the asset if it’s not an Account Engagement generated asset.
  • Check that no alternate field naming conventions are being used. Account Engagement will only capture metrics for Campaign, Medium, Source, Content, and Term in these fields.
