Error 'FIELD_FILTER_VALIDATION_EXCEPTION' on lookup field update

Date de publication: Apr 2, 2026
Description

The error message "FIELD_FILTER_VALIDATION_EXCEPTION, Value does not exist or does not match filter criteria," occurs when there are Lookup Filters defined on an object and you modify it so that the update doesn't reflect the filter criteria.

Scenario:

A Salesforce Admin investigates why users cannot select certain records in a lookup field. After checking the object’s Fields & Relationships in Setup, the admin finds a lookup filter restricting available records based on specific criteria. The issue occurs because the desired records do not meet this filter, so the admin reviews and adjusts either the data or the filter accordingly.
