With Opportunity stage names, administrators can add, change (by replacing with a newly created name), or delete the names.
In the Opportunity Object Manager, it is possible to edit the Opportunity Stages for the Type, Probability, or Forecast Category. It is not possible to change the Stage Name itself. A new Opportunity Stage name must be created and used to replace the old name as directed in the steps below.
To replace (update) an existing Opportunity Stage value with the new one you have created, select the 'Replace' button. Enter the existing Stage name in the 'Exact Value Changing From' field and then choose the new value created in the 'Select Value Changing To' picklist. This will replace all existing values on your Opportunity records with the new picklist value.
NOTE: The updated Stage value will not get updated on the historical Stage Value, it will remain as it is, as historical value and cannot be changed. When adding a new value to an opportunity stage, add it to sales process to make it visible in the sales process and on the Stage field.
NOTE: If you add new value to opportunity stage, you must also add it to sales process or it won't be visible on the record page in the picklist field drop down options.
