Best Practices for Geolocation data in CRM Analytics

Дата публикации: Dec 1, 2025
Описание
A Geolocation Field is a compound field type that contains three parts: Latitude, Longitude, and a System Field.

There are special considerations these fields require when being used in CRM Analytics:
  • Latitude and Longitude can be included in a dataflow digest node and in the SFDC_LOCAL Data Sync connection. They appear as GeolocationFieldName__Latitude__s and GeolocationFieldName__Longitude__s
  • High precision (number of digits) can result in a numeric overflow during ingestion and in computations. Refer to the maximum and minimum values for numeric fields for specific value limits.

Geolocation Accuracy

Latitude values are between -90 and 90. 0 is the Equator.
Longitude values are between -180 and 180. 0 is the Prime Meridian.
  • Each integer degree (precision 3) is ~ 80 km
  • Two decimal places (precision 5) will get you within 800 m
  • Four decimal places (precision 7) will be within ~ 8 m (This is about the accuracy of most commercial GPS devices.)
  • Seven decimal places (precision 10) is accurate to within less than a centimeter. This level of accuracy requires specialized equipment to measure.

Metadata Best Practices

To avoid numeric overflows and other unexpected behaviours, specify a Precision metadata override in the Dataflow where the geolocation fields are digested. Follow the Geolocation Accuracy information above for suggested values depending on your needs.
