Important: Customer Portal License Availability

Note: Starting with Summer ’13, the Customer Portal user license isn’t available for new organizations. You can create a customer portal using the Customer Account Portal Lightning template in Community Builder. Existing organizations using Customer Portal licenses may continue to use their licenses.


Before you can import Customer Portal or Partner Portal users, you first need to create three associated records:
 

  1. An Account record to associate with the user(s).
  2. Contact records to associate with each user.
  3. The Portal Role to assign to the user.


Note: If you will be creating multiple Accounts, it may not be feasible to create all of the roles in advance. This process will work without creating the roles, and will default assign each new user to the Standard User role. For example, if you create an Account named Acme, this process will name the role Acme Standard User.

Steps to Import Users with Data Loader

To bulk-create Customer Portal or Partner Portal users using Data Loader, complete the following steps to prepare your CSV file and insert user records.

First, you need to set up the Account or multiple Accounts for your Customer Portal or Partner portal Contacts. Then all the Contact records need to be created. In order to create Customer Portal users, you must have the “Edit Self-Service Users” permission.

To bulk-create Customer Portal or Partner Portal users using Data Loader, complete the following steps to prepare your CSV file and insert user records.
Once you have the three associated records, create a CSV file with the following columns to create the new users:
 

  • Role ID (Optional. Leave this field blank to associate the user with the Standard User role.)
  • FirstName
  • LastName
  • ContactID
  • ProfileID
  • Username
  • Email
  • Alias
  • TimeZoneSidKey
  • LocaleSidKey
  • EmailEncodingKey
  • LanguageLocaleKey
