Tableau CRM Classic Dashboards Retirement

Why did Salesforce retire Tableau CRM classic dashboards?

To provide a robust, extensible, and scalable foundation for rich dashboard features, we are replacing classic designer with dashboard designer powered by a new, more flexible run-time platform.

How did this retirement impact my Salesforce implementation?

Starting Winter ’19, you’ll see an end-of-life banner on the classic designer edit screen, reminding you to convert your classic dashboards. During this time, you will not be able to create dashboards in the classic designer, but you will still be able to edit them and use the public REST APIs to retrieve, modify, and create classic dashboards.

You and your users will no longer be able to access classic dashboards after the Winter '20 release. They will also no longer be accessible from the public REST APIs.

Take note of the following additional impacts from this feature retirement:

  • In Analytics Studio and Tableau CRM mobile apps, classic dashboards will no longer appear in the dashboard list view. Opening a classic dashboard via the URL or dashboard-to-dashboard linking will result in an error message informing you of the feature retirement.

  • For embedded dashboards, like in Visualforce, Lightning, and Aloha pages, an error message appears if the Tableau CRM dashboard component references a classic dashboard.

What action did I need to take? What was the replacement for this feature?

Your users will have to convert classic dashboards to dashboard designer and start using the newer dashboard designer to create dashboards.

To convert a classic dashboard, open it in classic designer, switch to edit mode, and click the “New Dashboard Designer” button. The button will not be available after the Winter '20 release.

While the conversion works well for simple dashboards, more complex dashboards may require significant changes. We encourage you to evaluate your more complex dashboards early and consider re-creating them in dashboard designer.
