Issue
After installing Salesforce for Outlook (SFO), the Side Panel in Microsoft Outlook may appear on the left side of the screen, become undocked, or open as a separate floating window.

Root Cause
This issue occurs when Microsoft Outlook is not configured to optimize for compatibility. Salesforce for Outlook requires the Outlook browser compatibility mode to be enabled to render the Side Panel correctly on the right side of the Outlook window.

This article explains how to resolve Side Panel display issues in Salesforce for Outlook (SFO) by enabling the Optimize for Compatibility setting in Microsoft Outlook 2013 or 2016 on Windows.


Steps for Windows Outlook 2013 or 2016

  1. Exit Salesforce for Outlook from the system tray by right-clicking the SFO red/gray icon and selecting Exit.
  2. Open Outlook and click File, then Options.
  3. On the General tab, select Optimize for Compatibility and click OK.
  4. Restart Outlook.
  5. Launch Salesforce for Outlook by double-clicking the SFO icon from the Desktop or Program menu.

After completing these steps, the Side Panel should load correctly on the right side of the Outlook window.
