Activity history on a Lead when it is converted

Data pubblicazione: Jun 17, 2026
Descrizione

When a Salesforce Lead is converted to an Account, Contact, and (optionally) an Opportunity, all activity history associated with the Lead is transferred to the newly created records. This includes both open activities (tasks and events that are pending) and closed activities (completed tasks and past events).

This article explains what happens to activities, notes, and attachments during Lead conversion, and how record ownership and the activity assignment are handled during the conversion process.

What Happens to Activities During Lead Conversion

When a Lead is converted in Salesforce, the following transfers occur automatically:

  • All open activities (pending tasks and upcoming events) from the Lead are attached to the new Account, Contact, and Opportunity
  • All closed activities (completed tasks and past events) from the Activity History are also transferred to the new Account, Contact, and Opportunity
  • All notes and attachments from the Lead are transferred to the new Account and Contact

The converted Lead record itself can no longer be viewed directly, but it continues to contribute data to Lead reports.

Activity Ownership During Lead Conversion

When you assign a new owner during Lead conversion, the following rules apply:

  • Open tasks assigned to the User converting the Lead are reassigned to the new owner
  • Open tasks assigned to other Users are not reassigned
  • Activity History tasks retain their assigned User, as long as that User has access to the related records. If not, the task is also reassigned to the new owner.
  • Events assigned to the User converting the Lead are reassigned to the new owner, regardless of whether they are Open Activities or in Activity History

Custom Lead Fields and Field Mapping

If your Salesforce org has custom Lead fields, that information can also be mapped and inserted into custom Account, Contact, or Opportunity fields during conversion. A Salesforce Administrator must configure this mapping before converting Leads. See: Map Custom Lead Fields for Lead Conversion.

System Field Updates on Conversion

During the Lead conversion process, Salesforce automatically updates the Last Modified Date and Last Modified By system fields on:

  • The converted Lead record (when picklist values on the converted Lead are changed)
  • All related open and closed activities linked to the converted Lead

This occurs because the Name and Related To values on activities are updated to reflect the new Contact and Opportunity records created during conversion.
