Images in HTML Emails Display as a Red X in Microsoft Outlook — Automatic Picture Download Blocked

Udgivelsesdato: Jul 1, 2026
Beskrivelse

Images in HTML Emails Show a Red X Placeholder in Microsoft Outlook

When receiving HTML emails in Microsoft Outlook, images may not display and instead appear as a red X placeholder. This occurs because Microsoft Outlook is configured by default to block automatic image downloads from the internet to protect user privacy from junk email senders.
When images are blocked, Outlook also displays the following information bar message:

"Click here to download pictures. To help protect your privacy, Outlook prevented automatic download of some pictures in this message."

This behavior is controlled by Outlook's Automatic Picture Download security setting, not by Salesforce. The same behavior can occur for any HTML email received in Outlook, not just emails sent from Salesforce.
