Publish Date: Jun 12, 2025
Description

Here's how to troubleshoot a recent drop in customer open rates for your email sends from Marketing Cloud.

Resolution

Check for Bounces

If your emails are bouncing, review your sent messages and review for any bounce reasons. You may need to address your content or the way you are sending messages to ensure better open rates.

Review the detailed bounce management Help article for detailed explanation about Bounce Mail Management in Email Studio.

Bounce Tracking - Marketing Cloud tracks your bounces in the tracking area of the application. To access the tracking data, follow these steps:

Click the Tracking tab.
Click Sends.
Click my tracking.
Click the job for which to view tracking.
View the Send Performance area.

Check for Inbox Placement

Create a test account on any domains where you experience low open rates and add them to your sends.

If the message goes directly to spam, please see our Email Deliverability Best Practices.

Marketing Advice

If you still have open rate issues and the deliverability of your email is excellent, it may come down to the recipients of the email losing interest.

Work with your marketing team in these cases to regain your Subscribers' interest.

You can also contact your Account Executive to set up a consultation with our Services team to discuss ways to regain Subscriber interest.

The key to getting back in the inbox at any receiver is to focus on your account's most engaged subscriber segment (those with an open or click in the last 90 days).
Engaged audience drive up open rates and submit a minimal number of complaints which improves sending reputation with the receiving ISP.
