Events are used to track meetings with prospects, colleagues and customers. They are different from Tasks which are To-Do list in Salesforce.
You cannot close (or complete) an event like a Task. Just like a calendar meeting, it automatically completes when the meeting ends.
There are several different ways to close out completed Tasks.
1. Click X next to the task to access the task detail page.
2.. Optionally, add comments to the task. Then Click Save.
Note: Status is already changed to Completed when "X" is clicked.
