Salesforce supports multiple display languages for both individual users and entire organizations. With the introduction of localized versions of Salesforce, users or administrators may want to change the language in which Salesforce displays. Supported languages include English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, Swedish, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Thai. Hungarian, Romanian, and Bulgarian are available only for Partner Relationship Management (PRM).

This article explains how to change the display language for an individual user and how an administrator can set a standard language across an entire organization.

Change Your Personal Language in Salesforce

To change the language for your own Salesforce account:

  1. Navigate to your language settings:
    1. Salesforce Classic: Setup > Personal Setup > My Personal Information > Edit
    2. Salesforce Classic (Improved Setup): Your name > My Settings > Personal > Language & Time Zone
    3. Lightning Experience: Your Avatar > Settings > Language & Time Zone
  2. Select your preferred language from the Language dropdown.
  3. Optionally, modify your Locale setting to control the formatting of numbers, dates, and phone numbers.
  4. Click Save.

You should now see the Salesforce interface in the selected language. Note: Some items are not automatically translated because they are global organization data. Your administrator must update those items separately — for example, "Recently Viewed," "Recently Modified," and "Recently Created."

Set One Standard Language for Your Organization

If your organization needs a single standard language, an administrator must update the following:

  1. Go to Setup > Company Information > Edit (Classic) or Setup > Company Information (Lightning). Change the Default Language, Default Locale, and Currency Locale. All new users inherit these settings.
  2. Use Setup > Translation Workbench to translate picklist values, button labels, record types, and other setup components including: Events, Tasks, Leads, Accounts, Contacts, Opportunities, Products, Cases, Solutions, Campaigns, Partner Role, and Contact Role.
  3. Click Edit This Message on the Home page sidebar to translate Messages and Useful Links.
  4. Translate public email templates via Setup > Administration > Email > Classic Email Templates.
  5. Translate public list view names for all record types: Campaigns, Leads, Accounts, Contacts, Opportunities, Products, Forecasts, Cases, Solutions, Activities, and Users.
  6. Translate other shared items such as Public Reports, Public Mail Merge Templates, Custom Fields, Lead Queue Names, Case Queue Names, and Custom Links.
  7. Enterprise Edition administrators may also update the names of standard page layouts.

These modifications apply to all users, even if an individual user does not switch their personal language. Note: Standard mail merge templates, default tasks assigned to new users, and names of standard profiles cannot be changed.
