Change the Owner or Status of Multiple Leads at Once

Sometimes it’s necessary to change the status or owner of multiple Leads at once. Rather than making the changes manually one by one follow these directions to efficiently update multiple Leads at the same time.

Prerequisites by edition

  • In the Professional and Group Editions, you must be a System Administrator to perform the actions listed here.
  • In the Enterprise and Unlimited Editions, you must have the 'Transfer Leads' or 'Manage Leads' permissions to allow mass changing of ownership and status, respectively.
  • If you don’t have the appropriate access, check with your System Administrator


To change Lead owner for multiple records

  1. From the Leads tab select one of the available Lead views.
  2. Select all Leads you would like to assign to a new owner.
  3. Click the Change Owner button located above the list view.
  4. Select a User or a Queue as the new owner.
  5. Click Save.


To change Lead Status for multiple records

  1. From the Lead tab select one of the available Lead views.
  2. Select all Leads you would like to assign to a new status.
  3. Click the Change Status button located above the list view.
  4. Select a new Status for the Leads.
  5. Click Save.


Mass Transfer Leads

Mass Transfer Leads by using the 'Mass Transfer Records' option: 

In Salesforce Classic: Setup | Data Management | Mass Transfer Records | Transfer Leads
In Lightning Experience: Setup | Data | Mass Transfer Records | Transfer Leads

Notes:
  • Changing the status of a Lead to a closed status doesn't convert the Lead. You must convert each Lead individually.
  • List views can only display 2,000 records
