Set up a Delegated Administrator

Дата публикации: Mar 10, 2026
Описание

Follow the steps below to set up a Delegated Administrator.

Notes:

  • Only System Administrators or a profile with the permissions of 'Customize Application' and 'View Setup and Configuration' can set up a Delegated Administrator or multiple Delegated Administrators.
  • When you use Delegated Administration, the system treats that user as a "scoped" administrator. Even if they have the broad "Manage Internal Users" permission, the UI changes because the Delegated Admin settings now act as a filter.
  • A Delegated Administrator can only assign profiles/permission sets/roles/permission set groups that have been explicitly added to the "Assignable Profiles/Permission sets/Roles/Permission set groups" related list within their Delegated Group. If a these aren't on that list, it won't appear in the dropdown.
  • In order for the Delegated Admin to be able to reset passwords for other users. The System Admin must enable the "Reset User Passwords and Unlock Users" on the DAs' custom profile. This function to reset passwords for other users will not work on users with a "Salesforce Platform License" as this license is designed for users who need access to custom apps and aren’t entitled to some user permissions.

To set up a Delegated Administrator (DA)

  1. Navigate to the following click paths:
Salesforce Classic: Setup | Administer | Security Controls | Delegated Administration
Lightning Experience: Setup | Settings | Security | Delegated Administration

  1. Create the group. Under Manage Delegated Groups, click New next to 'Delegated Group.'
  2. Specify who your Delegated Administrators will be. In the Delegated Administrators section click Add and select the Salesforce User.
  3. In the 'User Administrator' section click Add to specify the roles and subordinates for which Delegated Administrators of this group can create and edit Users. Note: they can create, edit, and log in as Users in the roles and subordinates specified in this step. They cannot modify the role hierarchy.
  4. In the 'Assignable Profiles' section click Add to determine which profiles the Delegated Administrators can assign to Users. Note: you cannot choose profiles with the permissions 'Modify All Data' because Delegated Administrators cannot change the profile of 'Modify All Data' Users in their delegated roles.
  5. You can choose to allow delegated administrators to serve as administrators for certain custom objects and their associated tabs. In the 'Custom Object Administration' section click Add to add the custom object. Note: Custom object relationships cannot be created or edited by the Delegated Administrator.
