"Insufficient Privileges" error occurs when clicking 'Send Email' button on Account object.

If you experience an insufficient privileges error message when attempting to send an email through the Account object, it is likely that the following steps were taken:

  1. Open Account page.
  2. Click Send Email from within the Activity History related list.
  3. "Insufficient Privileges" error appears.


The expected behavior is that you would see the Task window on the third step. The Task screen relies on access to both the Contacts object and the 'Send email' permission, which means either one or both permissions are missing.

To resolve, verify the following permissions in the User's profile and assign permission sets:

  • 'Send Email' permission is enabled.
  • User 'Read' access on Accounts.
  • User has 'Read' access on Contacts.
  • User has not been assigned a permission set using the Inbox license in an environment where Inbox licenses have expired.
