Sandbox and major release version after refreshing

Publiceringsdatum: Dec 26, 2023
Beskrivning

Salesforce releases are staggered so it's possible for a production organization and its related sandboxes to be on different major release versions. Here are the general guidelines:

  • The release version of the newly created or refreshed sandbox always matches the release version of its production organization at the time of copy, no exceptions.

  • Refreshes and newly created sandboxes are typically directed to release preview instances. Sandbox preview instances receive major Salesforce releases about a month in advance of the earliest production instance release, in order to allow for review and testing of new application features and changes.

  • For details on preview windows, preview and non-preview instances, and instructions on whether to refresh or not and when, check the Sandbox Preview Instructions article.

Common refresh scenarios during major releases:

Scenario 1: Assume that there is an ongoing release preview for Winter '20 with org's production instance being on Summer '19:

  • If the sandbox is created or refreshed and completes before the end of the preview window, then it is directed to a preview instance that receives the Winter '20 release in advance.

  • If the sandbox is refreshed after the preview window has closed, it will be directed to a non-preview instance and remain on the Summer '19 release (since the sandbox will always match production's release version at the time of refresh). For additional details, see Refresh sandbox to the preview release after the deadline.

Scenario 2: During major releases, there may be circumstances where it's possible that your production instance may receive an earlier release date than your sandbox's instance. Production Version: Winter '20

  • If you refresh your sandbox, it receives the Winter '20 version.
