How to Make Salesforce Home Page Custom Links Open in a New Browser Window

This solution involves three steps: creating custom links, building a custom component, and updating the Home Page layout.

Step 1: Create Custom Links

1. Navigate to Setup > Customize > Home > Custom Links.
2. Click New and follow the on-screen prompts to add each desired link.

Step 2: Create a Custom Home Page Component

1. Navigate to Setup > Customize > Home > Home Page Components.
2. Under Custom Components, click New.
3. Name the component something easily identifiable, such as "Links".
   1. Avoid naming it "Custom Links" — the standard component uses the same name and can cause confusion when editing page layouts.
4. Set the component Type to Links, then click Next.
5. Select the links created in Step 1 and click Save.

Step 3: Update the Home Page Layout

1. Navigate to Setup > Customize > Home > Home Page Layouts.
2. Click Edit next to the layout you want to modify.
3. Under Select Narrow Components to Show, uncheck the standard Custom Links component.
4. Under Select Narrow Components to Show, check the new custom component created in Step 2 (e.g., "Links").
