Video guide to creating a custom report type

1. Build a custom report type with the primary object as Reports.

  1. From Setup, enter Report Types in the Quick Find box, then click Report Types.
  2. Click the New Custom Report Type button
  3. Select Reports as your primary object.
  4. Add your Report Type's Label and Name, a description, the category to store the report in, and decide whether the report type should be deployed (Note: Keeping the report type 'In Deployment' will restrict users access of this report type to System Administrator users only, so be sure to change the status to 'Deployed' if non Administrators users should have access).
  5. Click Next.
  6. Add a secondary object if desired. Reports can be linked to Dashboard Components to track what report is populating which component.
  7. Click Save.

2. On the Report Type detail page, scroll down and click the Edit Layout Button.

  1. Add in your desired fields, such as "Report Type" from the box on the right.
  2. Click Save.

3. Build a new report using your newly created Custom Report Type, filtering by report name or report ID.

The "Report Type" field will display one of the following:
  • The name of the Report Type chosen in the report builder
  • The name you previously designated (if the Report Type is Custom)
  • A numeric value

Note: Creating a Custom Report type is not available in Group Edition, if you wish to have the ability to create Custom Report Types in Group Edition, please promote following idea on our IdeaExchnage forum: custom report type in group edition.
