Error: 'Salesforce Could Not Create This Lead'

Administrators may receive an email titled: "Salesforce Could Not Create This Lead" and are unable to find any email alerts or validation rules that apply.

Where does this come from and how do I change it?

The email body looks like this:

"Salesforce could not create this lead because of the reason listed below. For more information about this error or help with Web-to-Case-Lead, please contact Customer Support.

Reason: MyField__c duplicates value on record with id: 00Qb00xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Lead Capture Page: Not available.

To incorporate this Lead into Salesforce you can key in the data above."

Lösung

This alert is sent out to the Default Lead Creator and cannot be customized.

The alert is sent when a Lead is submitted via Web-to-Lead and one of the field entered is not respecting the Unique value of one of a custom field. In this example, the MyField__c field is affected.


Note: The actual Reason no longer shows on the message for this use case due to GDPR restrictions and instead may show the following message - We couldn't create this lead because of validation rules.

State & Country Picklists

A very similar error occurs if State & Country picklist is enabled in the Organization and the end user selects a State without selecting a Country. Since States are dependent on the Country, Users may want to create web validation rules so that their Customers are forced to select a State if they select a Country.
