This article describes how to configure a Workflow Rule to trigger a birthday reminder email two hours before a Contact's Birthdate field.
Note: As of Winter '23, Salesforce no longer supports the creation of new Workflow Rules. For new implementations, Salesforce recommends using Flow Builder to achieve the same functionality.
In Salesforce Classic: Setup | Create | Workflow & Approvals | Workflow Rules | click New Rule
In Lightning Experience: Gear icon | Setup | Process Automation | Workflow Rules | click New Rule
Step 1: Select object - Contact (select the object from the drop-down) and click on Next.
Step 2: Configure workflow rule
Step 3: Click on the Add Time Trigger button, in the workflow time trigger edit page
Step 4: Specify workflow action
Note: Always check if the workflow rule is activated
For orgs on Winter '23 or later, use Flow Builder to create a scheduled flow that triggers an email action 2 hours before the Contact's Birthdate. Navigate to: Setup | Process Automation | Flows | New Flow | Scheduled-Triggered Flow.
