Web-to-Lead records show 'not provided' in 'Company' field

Date de publication: Oct 6, 2026
Description

When Salesforce Leads are created through the Web-to-Lead form and the Company field is left blank or not included on the form, the Lead record displays "[not provided]" in the Company field. This occurs because the Company field is universally required for Lead records in Salesforce. The Web-to-Lead system automatically inserts "[not provided]" as a placeholder so the Lead can be created successfully. The same behavior applies to the Last Name field.
When Person Accounts are enabled for your Salesforce organization, the Company field is no longer universally required. As a result, when a Web-to-Lead record is submitted without a Company value, the Company field remains blank (rather than showing "[not provided]").
This distinction is important for Lead conversion: Leads with a blank Company field are converted to Person Accounts, while Leads with a Company value are converted to Business Accounts.

Résolution

This article explains how to populate a blank Company field on Web-to-Lead records in Salesforce by using a record-triggered Flow. The Flow runs when a Lead is created with no Company value and sets the Company field to a placeholder value such as [not provided].

Create the Record-Triggered Flow

  1. Go to Setup | Process Automation | Flows | New Flow.
  2. Select Record-Triggered Flow.
  3. For Object, select Lead.
  4. For Trigger the Flow When, select A record is created.

Set the Entry Condition

  1. Set the following condition:
    • Field: Company
    • Operator: Is Null
    • Value: True
  2. For Optimize the Flow for, select Fast Field Updates.
  3. Click Done.

Add an Assignment to Set the Company Placeholder

  1. Click + | Assignment.
  2. Enter a Label, for example: Set Company Placeholder.
  3. Set the following value:
    • Field: $Record.Company
    • Operator: Equals
    • Value: [not provided]
  4. Click Done.

Note: You can use a different placeholder value, such as No Company, if preferred.

Save and Activate the Flow

  1. Click Save.
  2. Enter a Flow Label, for example: Insert Company Placeholder for Web-to-Lead.
  3. Click Activate.

The Flow now populates the Company field with [not provided] whenever a new Lead is created with a blank Company field.
