Sales Cloud: Duplicate Value Found Error During Lead Conversion Due to Unique Field Mapping

Publiseringsdato: Sep 9, 2026
Beskrivelse

When converting a Lead in Salesforce Sales Cloud, users may encounter a "Duplicate value found" error. In Salesforce Classic, this appears below the Converted Status field, while in Lightning Experience it appears at the top of the conversion modal.

This error occurs when a unique field on the Lead is mapped to a unique field on a target object (Contact, Account, or Opportunity) that already contains the same value on an existing record.

Løsning

This article explains how to resolve the "Duplicate value found" error that can occur when converting a Lead in Salesforce Sales Cloud, and how to fix it so the conversion completes successfully.

Why This Error Occurs

This error happens when a unique field on a Lead is mapped to a unique field on a Contact, Account, or Opportunity, and that field already contains the same value on an existing record.

Example Scenario

For example:

  • There is a custom field on Leads with the Unique checkbox checked.
  • There is a custom field on Accounts with the Unique checkbox checked.
  • The Lead field is mapped to the Account field.
  • An existing Account already has the same unique value populated.
  • When the Lead is converted, Salesforce tries to save the new Account with the mapped value, but the value already exists elsewhere. This triggers the "Duplicate value found" error.

In Salesforce Classic, this error displays below the Converted Status field on the Lead Conversion page. In Lightning Experience, it displays at the top of the Conversion modal dialog.

How to Fix This Issue

To resolve the error, delete or edit the unique value on the Lead so that it no longer conflicts with an existing unique value on the target record. Once the uniqueness constraint is no longer violated, the Lead conversion completes successfully.
