Salesforce Reports: Opportunity Stage Types in Reporting

Publiseringsdato: May 5, 2026
Beskrivelse

Opportunity Stage Types are an important part of Reporting on Opportunities. These Stage Types pull into the Opportunity Status Filter on a Report.

Example:
You have a Custom Opportunity Stage called "Closed - Out of Business". You have set the Type for this Stage as "Open".
You have a Report where the Opportunity Status Filter is set to show "Open" Opportunities.
Upon further inspection of the Report, you see that Opportunities with the Stage "Closed - Out of Business" are showing in the Report. You would prefer that these Opportunities not be referenced in this type of Report.

Explanation of how the Opportunity Status filter works in reports:

Opportunity Status Filter Options

Status = Any:
- This includes all Opportunity Stage Types, encompassing every stage of the sales process.

Status = Closed:
- This includes all stages under the "Closed Won" and "Closed Lost" stage types. It filters the report to show only those opportunities that have been finalised, whether won or lost.

Status = Open:
- This includes all stage names under the "Open" stage type. It filters the report to display only those opportunities that are still in progress and haven't yet reached a closed status.

Status = Closed Won
-This includes only stage names under the "Closed Won" stage type. It filters the report to display only those opportunities that have been finalized, with won.

To change the Stage Type assigned to a custom Opportunity Stage, follow these steps in Classic or Lightning Experience. In this instance, you can do the following:

In Classic

  1. Navigate to Setup | Customize | Opportunities | Fields and click on the Stage Field in the Standard Fields section
  2. Click Edit next to the "Closed - Out of Business" value
  3. Change the Type from "Open" to "Closed/Lost" and click Save

In Lightning:

  1. Go to Setup
  2. Click on Object Manager, then select Opportunity
  3. Click the Fields and Relationship tab and click on the Stage Field
  4. Click Edit next to the "Closed - Out of Business" value
  5. Change the Type from "Open" to "Closed/Lost" and click Save

If the "Closed - Out of Business" value is inactive, you may want to delete the value and replace it with an active value with the Type of "Closed/Lost". This will change historical Records so they pull into Reports properly.
