Cannot View an Attachment in Task Records

If a user is unable to see the Attachments related list when creating a Task or opening an existing Task record — even when other users with the same profile can see it — the Attachments related list may have been removed via the user's Personal Settings.


Note: The Attachment related list is available in Salesforce Classic only. In Lightning Experience, the equivalent functionality is the Files related list. Although you can adjust Personal Settings in both user interfaces, the Attachment related list itself cannot be made available in Lightning Experience.

If the Attachments related list is not visible on a Task record, it may have been removed via Personal Settings. Follow the steps below to restore it. Log in as the affected user before performing these steps.

Restoring the Attachments Related List in Salesforce Classic

           Option 1 (Improved Setup UI enabled): Name > My Settings > Display and Layout > Customize My Pages > Select "Tasks"

          > Click "Customize Page" > Add "Attachments" to selected list > Save

           Option 2 (If My Settings is missing under your Name): Setup > Change My Display > Customize My Pages 

          > Select "Tasks" in the dropdown > Click "Customize Page" > Add "Attachments" to selected list > Save

Restoring the Files Related List in Lightning Experience

 
Via Personal Settings: Avatar > Settings > Display & Layout > Customize My Pages > Select "Tasks" > Click "Customize Page" > Add "Files" to selected list > Save
Via Page Layout (if Files is unavailable via Personal Settings):
 
  1. Go to Setup.
  2. Click Object Manager.
  3. Click Task.
  4. Click Page Layout.
  5. From the Palette, click Related List.
  6. Drag Files into the Related Lists section.
  7. Save.
Once these steps are complete, the Files related list is available when creating tasks using the New Task button or when editing an existing task record.
Note: The Attachment related list does not display when creating a task using the Log a Call button.
