Workflow email alert "Default Workflow User's email address is incorrect"

A workflow rule with an email alert set to use the Default Workflow User sends emails from an unexpected address because the user's My Email Settings return address overrides the email on the User record.

This occurs because the return email address in My Email Settings takes precedence over the email address on the Default Workflow User's profile page.


In Salesforce Classic
  1. Log in to the Default Workflow User's account.
  2. Go to Setup | Personal Setup | Email | My E-mail Settings
  3. Check the Email Address given in 'What email address would you like to use as your return address?'



In Lightning Experience

  1. Log in to the Default Workflow User's account.
  2. Click on the user icon on the upper right of the screen and select Settings.
  3. Under Email, go to My Email Settings.
  4. Check the Email Address given in 'What email address would you like to use as your return address?'.
  5. Edit the email address and save the changes.


This email address will override the Default Workflow User's email address on the user page, if it is different.
