Reset an organization data to default

Descripción
There may be circumstances where it's necessary to reset a Salesforce organization to default. Support does not have the ability to reset an organization to its default state but it is possible for administrators to clear out or delete everything to start fresh like a new organization.

The available approaches vary depending upon whether your organization is in trial or active status:

  • Trial Status - it is possible to delete all trial and data that may have been entered during your trial period.
  1. Navigate to Delete All Data in Setup.
In Salesforce Classic: Setup | Data Management | Delete All Data
In Lightning Experience: Gear icon | Setup | Data | Delete All Data
  1. Enter the requested text stating that you understand that all data in your organization will be deleted, including sample data and data that you entered. Your User and administrator setup isn’t affected.
  2. Select the checkbox for I understand and acknowledge that this function will cause irrecoverable data loss. I agree not to hold salesforce.com responsible for any data loss that may occur as a result of my decision.
  3. Click on Submit.
  4. Click on Submit again on the prompt, 'If you are certain you want to erase all of the data on your organization "Salesforce," click Submit.

Note: This link is only available for organizations in trial status and can't be enabled for active customers by Saleforce Support.

  • Active Status - you will need to leverage available data management tools such as the Mass Delete Records tool, Data Loader, or truncate custom objects feature to manually remove existing data.
If this process is not scalable for your organization, consider contacting your Account Executive to discuss the possibility of provisioning a new default Salesforce organization all together.

General steps with links to resources to clean or reset your organization to a default state:

  1. Be sure to back up all your data using the Data Loader or Data Export Service before beginning. See the article BEST PRACTICES: Data backup and recovery best practices  for more details.

  1. If your organization is in Trial status see Delete Trial Data.
Note: This tool is only available for organizations in trial status and can't be enabled by Support.

If your organization is in active status there are several options available to remove existing data. See the article Delete Multiple Records and Reports for options to delete records using native functionality and other available Partner solutions.

  1. Salesforce editions with API Access may use Data Loader to mass delete data contained in standard or custom objects. Refer to Insert, Update, or Delete Data Using Data Loader for more details.
For data contained in custom objects you may be able to leverage the truncate custom object feature to drop entire tables of data contained in custom objects. Review Truncating Custom Objects to see if your custom objects may be eligible.

  1. To remove customization or metadata, administrators will need to manually remove custom apps, objects, tabs, fields, buttons, page layoutsvalidation rules, workflows etc. You may also need to consider uninstalling packages or third party applications. Unfortunately, there is not a way to automatically clear or remove customization and this is manual process in which each object and setup section must be individually reviewed and cleaned up client side.

If your organization has a large number of customization and data and the above options are not scalable you may want to consider signing up for a new trial organization. If you desire an entirely new default active organization then please engage your Account Executive who can work with Support to complete your request.

Use Your Account to locate your Account Executive's contact details or alternatively you can dial 1-800-NO-SOFTWARE.
