In Salesforce Reports (Report Builder), when the Record Type field is added as a filter criterion, the record type values appear in the order they were created — not in alphabetical order. This is expected behavior in Salesforce.
This article explains why this occurs and provides a workaround for customers who require alphabetically ordered record type values in report filters.
When creating or editing records in Salesforce, record type values are sorted alphabetically. However, when the Record Type field is used as a filter criterion in Report Builder, the values display in the order they were originally created. This is by design.
If alphabetical ordering of record type values in report filters is required, the only available option is to delete the existing record types and recreate them in the desired alphabetical order.
Note: Deleting and recreating record types may have downstream impacts on page layouts, profiles, and record assignments. Review all dependencies before proceeding.
