Import Contacts or Leads as Campaign Members with Data Loader

When using Data Loader to import Campaign Members, the Contacts or Leads that needs to be added to a specific campaign should already exist in Salesforce prior to the import. A User should choose the Campaign Member (CampaignMember) table on Data Loader and use the Insert function. To select this object, select Show all Salesforce objects.  

Make sure that the following fields are included on the .csv file:

  • CampaignID - the ID of the specific campaign to which the record needs to be added.
  • ContactID or LeadID  -  ID of the specific Contact or Lead record.
  • Status - the status of the Campaign Member within the specific campaign. 


You can get the CampaignID and the ContactID or LeadID by running a report in Salesforce and adding the ID of the record as a report column. 

Note: 

If you cannot see the Campaign Member object when choosing the Insert option, make sure that you have selected the checkbox for Show all Salesforce objects and also ensure the running user has the Marketing User permission. Below are the steps provided on how you can import Contacts and Leads as campaign members using Data Loader.

  1. Launch Data Loader.

If Data Loader is not yet installed, please refer to installation instructions for your operating system:

Install Data Loader on Windows
Install Data Loader on macOS

 

  1. Click Insert then login using your Salesforce credentials.
  2. Select Show all Salesforce objects.
  3. Select Campaign Member(CampaignMember).
  4. Click Browse... then look for your .csv file ready for import.
  5. Click Next>.
  6. Click Create or Edit Map.
  7. Click Auto-Match Fields to Columns to automatically map Salesforce fields to your columns. For more information, see Define Data Loader Field Mappings. 

If, however, there are columns left unmapped kindly do so by mapping the fields to columns by dragging the Salesforce fields beside the column name.

 

  1. Click OK then Next>.
  2. Choose a directory for success and error file.
  3. Click Finish.
  4. Click Yes.
