Links do not work on text email templates

Data pubblicazione: Jun 11, 2026
Descrizione

When creating a text email template in Salesforce and including website URLs (such as developer.salesforce.com or www.salesforce.com), the URLs do not function as clickable hyperlinks. Recipients cannot click the URL to navigate to the website.
This is expected behavior. Text email templates in Salesforce support plain text content only. They do not support any HTML formatting, including hyperlinks. Some browsers may render plain-text URLs as clickable links, but this is a browser-level behavior and is not a Salesforce-supported feature. The behavior varies across different browsers and email clients.

Risoluzione

This article explains the formatting limitations of Salesforce text email templates and the recommended alternative for including clickable links.

Unsupported Formatting in Text Email Templates

The following formatting types are not supported in Salesforce text email templates:

  • Hyperlinks (clickable URLs)
  • Images
  • Font changes (type, size, color)
  • Tables
  • Other HTML formatting options

Recommended Alternative: Use an HTML Email Template

If your email requires clickable links, images, or rich formatting, use an HTML email template instead of a text email template. HTML templates support full hyperlink syntax and give you control over how links appear to recipients.

How to Create an HTML Email Template with a Clickable Link

  1. Go to Setup and search for Email Templates.
  2. Click New Template and select HTML (using Letterhead) or Custom (without using Letterhead).
  3. In the HTML editor, insert a hyperlink using standard HTML: <a href="<REDACTED>">Salesforce Developer Documentation</a>.
  4. Save and test the template by sending a test email.

Note: Even in text email templates, including the full URL (for example, `<REDACTED>) allows some email clients and browsers to detect and render it as a clickable link — but this behavior is not guaranteed.
