When the Salesforce for Outlook is being installed using the .EXE file, the installer checks your computer for prerequisites and prompts you to download and install them if they do not exist. Sometimes the installer is unable to complete this process hence the SFO installation fails. To be able to fix this issue you will need to install these prerequisites manually before installing SFO.

First make sure Salesforce For Outlook and Microsoft Outlook are both closed, next uninstall the installed version of Microsoft Primary Interop Assemblies (PIA) and Microsoft Office Visual Studio Run-time VSTO from the list of installed programs in the Control Panel (if they exist)
