Create, Edit, Delete, and Assign a Permission Set

Permission Sets allow administrators to grant additional permissions to users without modifying their profiles.

To use Permission Sets, users must:

  • Be logged into Salesforce
  • Have the Manage Profiles and Permission Sets permission
  • Be in a supported edition (for example, Enterprise, Unlimited, Performance, Developer)

Permission Sets can be managed from Setup in both Lightning Experience and Salesforce Classic.


Access Permission Sets

Lightning Experience:

  1. Click Setup (⚙️)
  2. Navigate to Users → Permission Sets

Salesforce Classic:

  1. Go to Setup → Manage Users → Permission Sets

Create a Permission Set

  1. Navigate to Permission Sets
  2. Click New
  3. Enter required details (Label, API Name, User License if applicable)
  4. Click Save
  5. Configure permissions as needed (Object, System, App, etc.)

Edit a Permission Set

  1. Open the desired Permission Set
  2. Navigate to the section to update (for example, App Permissions or Object Settings)
  3. Click Edit
  4. Make changes
  5. Click Save

Note:

  • The User License cannot be changed after creation

Delete a Permission Set

  1. Go to the Permission Sets list
  2. Click Del next to the permission set
  3. Confirm deletion

Note:

  • Permission sets cannot be deleted if assigned to users

Assign a Permission Set to Users

  1. Open the Permission Set
  2. Click Manage Assignments
  3. Click Add Assignments
  4. Select users
  5. Click Assign

Additional Notes

  • In some editions (for example, Professional), Permission Set functionality may be limited
  • Permission Set Groups showing Failed status can be recalculated by:
    • Adding a temporary permission set and saving, or
    • Editing and saving an existing permission
