Use SenderType Parameter to Create Email Alerts in a Salesforce Flow

Fecha de publicación: Jun 15, 2026
Descripción

Workflow email alerts in Salesforce are pre-configured with an email template, a list of recipients, and a sender type. When using the Send Email element in a Salesforce Flow (Flow Builder), you must manually provide the subject, body, list of recipients, and SenderType for each email.

Steps to Add an Email Element in Flow

  1. From Setup, click Create | Workflow & Approvals | Flows and open a new or existing Flow.
  2. In the Palette, find the email element you want to call:
    1. To call a workflow email alert, click and select Email Alerts. Optionally, type three or more letters to search for a specific alert.
    2. To customize an email in the flow, type "Send" to find the Send Email element.
  3. Drag the email element onto the canvas and fill in the general settings and input parameters, including SenderType.

Configuring the SenderType Parameter

To configure email alerts in a Salesforce Flow (Flow Builder), you must specify the SenderType parameter. SenderType determines the From and Reply-To email address that appears when the email is sent. The following values are valid:

  • CurrentUser – Uses the email address of the person who updated the record. This is the default setting.
  • DefaultWorkflowUser – Uses the email address of the default workflow user configured in your org.
  • OrgWideEmailAddress – Uses a verified, organization-wide email address for your organization, such as support@yourcompany.com. This is configured in Setup under Organization-Wide Email Addresses.

Using OrgWideEmailAddress

If you want to use OrgWideEmailAddress as the sender, first create an email alert using the organization-wide address as described in the Email Alert Actions Salesforce Help article. Then, in Flow Designer, add the email alert to your Flow.
