In Salesforce, administrators may observe that object-level permissions on a Profile reset unexpectedly — without any manual changes being made on the Profile side. This behavior is caused by the "View All Data" and "Modify All Data" system permissions in the Administrative Permissions section of the Profile.
When either of these permissions is enabled, Salesforce automatically grants Create, Read, Edit, and Delete (CRUD) permissions on all objects for that Profile, overriding any previously configured object-level permission settings. To prevent this automatic override, the "View All Data" and "Modify All Data" permissions must be explicitly disabled.
The automatic assignment of object permissions is caused by the "View All Data" and "Modify All Data" permissions in the Administrative Permissions section of each Profile. When either permission is enabled, Salesforce overrides all individual object-level permissions and automatically grants full Create, Read, Edit, and Delete access to every object in the org.
To resolve this, disable both "View All Data" and "Modify All Data" permissions in the Administrative Permissions section of the affected Profile. The steps below cover both interface options and both Salesforce experiences.
