Activity related lists missing if View is overridden with Visualforce page

Description
If we use a Visualforce page that includes an <apex:detail/> component to override a custom object's "View", and if  the "Open Activities" and "Activity History" related lists are missing for users within a certain profiles; even though the layout assigned to that profile does contain these related lists.

It's worth noting that if the "View" is not overridden with a Visualforce page (i.e. the standard detail page is used), these related lists are displayed as expected.

 
Résolution
Make sure the RelatedTo field on Tasks and Events is visible for the affected profile.

In Classic UI, Setup, under Activities | Task Fields | Click on "Related To" field link | Set Field-Level Security | Edit the setting for the profile. 

In LEX UI, Setup | Object Manager | Look up Task Object | Fields and Relationships | Click on "Related To" field link | Set Field-Level Security | Edit the setting for the profile.
