When using Salesforce for Outlook (SFO) to sync Contacts, the following error message may appear:
ERROR [Contact] Create to SFDC gave error(s) Sfdc.Server.SfdcServerCreateUpdateException: Required fields are missing: [LastName] for Outlook record
This error occurs when a Contact record in Outlook does not have a value in the Last Name field, which is a required field in Salesforce.
When any sync error occurs with Salesforce for Outlook, the SFO system tray icon (located in the bottom-right corner of your screen) changes from its normal appearance to a warning icon (a red or orange indicator). Double-clicking the icon opens the error details dialog, which displays the full error message and identifies the affected Contact record.
Note: Salesforce for Outlook (SFO) has been retired. Salesforce recommends migrating to Einstein Activity Capture (EAC) for ongoing email and calendar integration.
This article explains how to resolve the Salesforce for Outlook (SFO) sync error "Required fields are missing: [LastName]". This error occurs because Salesforce requires a Last Name value on all Contact records. Contacts synced from Outlook that are missing a Last Name will fail to sync to Salesforce.
