Unable to track gained or lost User permission in Profile

If you are unable to track a gained or lost User Permission on a profile using Setup Audit Trail in Salesforce, this indicates that the modification to the profile was performed via a Change Set deployment. Changes to User Permissions made via Change Sets are not tracked in the Setup Audit Trail — this is expected behavior.

Validate modification by Change Set


The ability to change User Permissions using Change Sets has been standard Salesforce functionality since the Winter '14 release.

 Here's how you can validate the source of a change. 
  • Monitor Setup Changes - See if any Change Sets were deployed from Sandbox to Production, or whatever the affected environment is. 
  • Review Inbound Change Sets node - See if there is a Sandbox with the same Profile that has the additional permission, and if the change has been propagated from Sandbox to the other environment via Change Sets. 

Note: Changes to User Permissions made via Change Sets are not tracked in the Setup Audit Trail. To request this functionality, vote on the Salesforce IdeaExchange idea: Capture All Change Set Permission Changes in the Setup Audit Trail.
