Developer console cannot save classes, triggers or pages

Unable to save a specific Apex or Visualforce item in Developer Console

You may encounter the inability to save Apex classes, Apex triggers, Visualforce pages, or Visualforce components in the Developer Console. When your save attempt fails, you will encounter an error message similar to this example:

<<Failed to create createContainerMember for containerId=1dcXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX: An unexpected error occurred. Please include this ErrorId if you contact support: 44xxxxxxx-xxx (xxxxxxxxx)>>

This error indicates you have a corrupted workspace. For confirmation of the issue, check the Progress tab for a similar error message to this example:

<<Returned wrong number of rows: 2 on xxx>>

How do I replace the corrupted workspace?

1. From the Developer Console, select Workspace > New Workspace.
2. Enter a new name for your new workspace, then click OK.
3. From the Developer Console, select Workspace > Workspace Manager.
4. Highlight your corrupted workspace, and click Delete.
