Open the Result File from the Salesforce Data Import Wizard Bulk Data Load Job Page

After completing a data import using the Salesforce Data Import Wizard, the Bulk Data Load Job page displays View Request and View Result links. Depending on your browser's file association settings, clicking these links may result in an unknown file type error, preventing you from opening the result file directly.

This article provides two options to resolve this issue and successfully open the Bulk Data Load Job result file.

Note: The Data Import Wizard is available in Salesforce Classic and Lightning Experience, but is not available in Professional Edition.

There are two options to resolve the unknown file type error when opening result files from the Bulk Data Load Job page.

Option 1: Manually Select the Program to Open the File

  1. Click the file that was downloaded.
  2. In the How do you want to open this file? prompt, if the desired program is not listed, click Look for another app on this PC.
  3. Browse to the appropriate application (for example, Microsoft Excel or another CSV/text editor).
  4. Select the application and click Open.

Option 2: Save the File as a .csv File

  1. Right-click the View Result or View Request link.
  2. Select Save link as....
  3. Choose the location where you want to save the file.
  4. Enter the file name as result.csv.
  5. Click Save.
  6. Open the saved .csv file using Microsoft Excel or another spreadsheet application.
