RCA and EWS fail due to the 'Office365 K1' license

Veröffentlichungsdatum: May 2, 2026
Beschreibung

Some customers using the Microsoft Office 365 K1 license (also referred to as the Microsoft 365 F1 license) may experience failures when testing Exchange connectivity. Specifically, both the Exchange Web Services (EWS) protocol and the Microsoft Remote Connectivity Analyzer (RCA) diagnostic tool may fail.
EWS (Exchange Web Services) is the protocol that Salesforce uses to sync contacts and calendar events with Microsoft Exchange in products such as Lightning Sync and Outlook Integration.
RCA (Remote Connectivity Analyzer) is a Microsoft diagnostic tool used to test and validate Exchange connectivity settings before configuring sync.
The typical error message visible in the Microsoft RCA log output is: No EXPR or EXCH settings were found in the Autodiscover response.

This error indicates that the Exchange server's Autodiscover endpoint did not return the expected EWS (EXPR) or internal Exchange (EXCH) configuration settings.

Lösung

Root Cause

The Office 365 K1 license (Microsoft 365 F1) does not fully enable Exchange Web Services (EWS). Since Salesforce Exchange Sync — used by both Lightning Sync and Outlook Integration — relies on EWS to communicate with Microsoft Exchange, synchronization will not function for users assigned this license type.

Resolution Options

  1. Upgrade the Microsoft License: Upgrade the affected user's Microsoft 365 license to one that includes full EWS support. Licenses that support EWS include Microsoft 365 E1, E3, E5, Business Basic, Business Standard, and Business Premium. Contact your Microsoft administrator or Microsoft support to facilitate the license upgrade.
  2. Switch to Einstein Activity Capture (EAC): As an alternative, consider migrating to Einstein Activity Capture (EAC), Salesforce's modern contact and event sync product. EAC uses OAuth-based connectivity (Microsoft Graph API) rather than EWS and is not subject to the same K1 license restriction. For setup guidance, see Set Up Einstein Activity Capture.
