Enable 'Profile-Based Chatter Rollout'

Profile-Based Chatter Rollout allows your organization to control Chatter rollout at the Profile or Permission Set level. This is useful when you want to gradually roll out Chatter to specific user groups rather than enabling it org-wide. For example, an administrator can enable Chatter for a pilot group of users with a specific profile before rolling it out to the entire organization. This feature must be activated by Salesforce Support.

Profile-Based Chatter Rollout must be explicitly activated by Salesforce Support before it is available in your organization.

Requesting Activation

If you've reviewed all relevant documentation and still need assistance with activating this feature, please have a System Administrator submit an Activations request with Salesforce Support..

When submitting your activation request, please include:

  1. Your Organization ID
  2. A business reason for your request
  3. Confirmation that you understand and consent to the following:
    • When Profile-Based Chatter Rollout is enabled, Chatter is automatically enabled for standard profiles.
    • For all custom profiles and permission sets, Chatter is automatically enabled if any of the following user-level permissions were already enabled (either manually or as part of a license):
      • "Create and Own New Chatter Groups" (ChatterOwnGroups)
      • "Create and Share Links to Chatter Files" (ChatterFileLink)
      • "Invite Customers To Chatter" (ChatterInviteExternalUsers)
      • "Manage Chatter Messages" (ManageChatterMessages)
      • "Moderate Chatter" (ModerateChatter)
      • "Moderate Chatter Feeds" (ModerateNetworkFeeds)
      • "Use Case Feed"
      • "View All Data" (ViewAllData)

After Activation:

Once the activation request is received, Salesforce Support will review and respond to your request.

After this feature is enabled, a permission called Enable Chatter appears in Profiles and Permission Sets. It controls Chatter access and several related permissions. Administrators can remove access by deselecting this box. If the organization is not already using Chatter, we recommend setting these permissions before enabling Chatter.

NOTE: When Profile-Based Chatter Rollout is enabled and Chatter is not enabled for a particular user profile, users with that profile will not be able to see the 'upload files' button under the note and attachment section in an Experience Cloud Site. More details can be found here.
