Error: 'Operation too large' or 'Exceeded 100000 distinct ids' in a Salesforce Activity Report

Дата публикации: Jul 17, 2026
Описание

When a user without the View All Data permission runs a Salesforce report on Tasks and Events (activity reports) that queries a large number of related records, they may receive one of the following errors:

  • Operation too large
  • Exceeded 100000 distinct who/what's
  • Exceeded 100000 distinct ids

Important Note on Query Behavior

Sometimes non-administrator users see successful results for reports that query a large number of related records. The inconsistent results occur because some query limits are based on asynchronously-collected statistics, which can occasionally be outdated.

Решение

There is a limit on the number of Activity records that a non-Administrator user can query in a single Salesforce report. If you receive one of the errors listed above while attempting to view an activity report, the following two resolution paths are available.

Resolution Option 1: Refine Report Filter Criteria

The most effective way to resolve this error is to reduce the number of records the report queries by refining the filter criteria. Options include:

  • Reducing the date range of the report
  • Narrowing the scope of the Show Me filter
  • Adding additional filter criteria lines to limit results

Resolution Option 2: Grant View All Data Permission

A System Administrator can provide the user with the View All Data profile permission, which removes the query limit and resolves the error.
