When a user without the View All Data permission tries to run a report Salesforce report on Tasks and Events or activities that query a large number of related records, the user may receive an error message saying Operation too Large or Exceeded 100000 distinct who/what's or Exceeded 100000 distinct ids in a Report.
Note: Sometimes, non-administrators see successful results for reports that query a large number of related records. The inconsistent results occur because some query limits are based on asynchronously-collected statistics, which can be outdated occasionally.
There is a limit on the number of Activity records that a non-Administrator can query.
If you have received one of the above error messages while attempting to view an activity report, the best way to resolve the error message is to refine the report's filter criteria (by reducing the date range, narrowing the scope of the "Show Me" filter, adding additional lines of filter criteria, etc). Alternately, a System Administrator may provide you with the View All Data profile permission, which will negate the error message.
