Track Geographic Location of User Logins

Описание

You can track the geographic location of IP addresses for user logins from the Login History report, Session Management pages, Setup Audit Trail, or by querying the LoginGeo object.

When a User attempts to login to Salesforce, geographic information about the login attempt is obtained from the LoginGeo object. Due to the nature of geolocation technology, the accuracy of geolocation fields (for example, country, city, postal code) may vary.

Geolocation technology, while mostly accurate, is a best guess based on who owns the IP address and where it is registered. We update our internal database to the latest list of geographic IP locations with each release. You can check IPs on the website below to see if it will be updated for the next release, or to find out if it is still showing a different location than expected.

Note: Salesforce tracks only Public/Static IPs

Non-inclusive list of possible reasons the location showing for an IP address may not be correct:

  1. User is connected to a VPN/Proxy
    • This would cause their location to reflect the endpoint of the proxy and not their actual location.
    • User is connecting through a mobile device or hot-spot.
  2. Device could be connected to a tower in another country if they are by a border.
    • Cell tower IP addresses often do not reflect the actual location of the tower since many towers can utilize the same set of Ips.
  3. IP location information is out of date or inaccurate.
    • If looking up the IP from Maxmind shows an incorrect location you can request an update here which will then be updated in Salesforce on the following major release:

Note: User Login History tracks a rolling six month period, reports do not exceed six months tracking.
