In Salesforce, certain standard fields on objects such as Account, Lead, Contact, Opportunity, and Cases are designated as "Always On Layout." These fields are mandatory on the page layout and cannot be removed, even by System Administrators.
Fields set as Required at the field level are also treated as Always On Layout. Standard fields are identified by a blue circle indicator when configuring the page layout for an object.
