Salesforce Data Export File Is Too Large to Open in Microsoft Excel

Publiseringsdato: May 4, 2026
Beskrivelse

When using Salesforce Data Export, unzipping the exported archive may produce CSV files that exceed Microsoft Excel's row limit of approximately 1,048,576 rows. For example, a task.csv file exported from a large Salesforce org may contain over 1 million records, which Microsoft Excel cannot open successfully. This article explains how to resolve the issue by splitting large Salesforce Data Export CSV files into smaller files that Excel can process.

Løsning

To open large Salesforce Data Export CSV files, use a free CSV splitter tool to divide the file into smaller, manageable parts that Microsoft Excel or a similar program can open.

How to Split a Large Salesforce Data Export CSV File

There are various free tools available that split one CSV file into many smaller CSV files. Use your preferred search engine to search for "CSV Splitter" to find, download, and install a CSV splitter program.

Example

Suppose you have a task.csv file exported from Salesforce that contains 1 million records. Use a CSV splitter program to divide the 1 task.csv file into 10 smaller files, each containing 100,000 records. Once you have smaller CSV files, open them individually with Microsoft Excel or a similar spreadsheet application.
Note: Salesforce Support does not assist with splitting the exported CSV file. The CSV splitter tool is a third-party solution.
