Salesforce for Outlook and Outlook Integration Panel Links Not Opening Correct Browser on Windows

게시 일자: May 4, 2026
상세 설명

Links in the Salesforce for Outlook (SFO) and Outlook Integration side panel open using the default web browser configured in Microsoft Windows settings. If links do not open in a browser, or open in the wrong browser, the Windows default browser setting or file type associations may need to be updated.
This article applies to users of Salesforce for Outlook and the Salesforce Outlook Integration on Windows operating systems.

솔루션

This article explains how to fix the issue where links in the Salesforce for Outlook or Outlook Integration panel do not open a web browser or open in the wrong browser. The steps below involve resetting Windows default browser settings and, if needed, updating individual file type associations.

Before making any changes, ensure you have installed the most recent patch version of Microsoft Outlook available for your product.

Step 1: Set a New Default Browser Temporarily

One way to reset browser file associations is to temporarily set a different browser as your default, and then switch back to your preferred browser. This resets all file extensions associated with that browser.
Use the links below to set your preferred browser as the default:

  • How to make Internet Explorer your default browser
  • How to make Firefox your default web browser
  • How to make Chrome your default web browser
  • Change your default browser in Windows 10 (Microsoft Support)
Important: Before making a browser your default, close all applications. Make sure to exit Salesforce for Outlook by right-clicking the system tray icon and selecting Exit.

Step 2: Manually Update File Type Associations

If switching the default browser does not resolve the issue, manually update the file type associations for the following extensions to point to your preferred browser:

  • .htm
  • .html
  • .shtml
  • .webp
  • .xht
  • .xhtml

Steps to update file type associations:

  1. Close all web browsers and other applications, including Salesforce for Outlook (right-click the system tray icon and click Exit).
  2. Go to Windows Control Panel > Programs > Default Programs.
  3. Click "Associate a file type or protocol with a specific program."
  4. Scroll down and locate each file extension listed above. Select it and click "Change Program."
  5. On the Open With page, select your preferred browser (Internet Explorer, Edge, Firefox, or Chrome). If your browser does not appear, click Browse and locate it.
  6. Repeat Steps 4 and 5 for each file extension.
  7. Reopen your default browser, then open Outlook. Once the inbox loads, reopen Salesforce for Outlook and test the links.
