Export email templates

User permissions: To Export or Export All records: "Read" on the records

Email templates are considered a type of metadata, and so are not available to be included in the weekly or monthly data backup. Instead, use Data Loader to export the template information.

To export email templates using Data Loader

 
1. Open Data Loader.

Note: If Data Loader is not yet installed, please review Install Data Loader. 

2. Click Export or Export All. 

3. Login with either OAuth or Password Authentication.
  • If Password Authentication is selected, enter username and password and then click Login.
  • If OAuth is selected, select environment, click Login and enter your  username and password. Click Allow and click Login.

Note: If you have trouble logging in, please review Why can’t I log in to Data Loader? and Error 'Failed to send request' or unable to login with Data Loader.

3. Click Next.

4. Select Show all Salesforce Objects (to make sure you see all objects).

5. Select Email Template (EmailTemplate).

6. Click Browse to select where you want to save your extracted file.

7. Name your CSV file and click Next.

8. Create a SOQL query for the data export by selecting the fields you want to export and optionally, set conditions to filter your data set. If you do not select any conditions, all the email templates to which you have Read access will be returned. For more information on SOQL, please review Introduction to SOQL and SOSL.

9. Click Finish, then click Yes to confirm the export.

10. You will see a window that shows the progress of the operation.

11. After the operation completes, a confirmation window summarizes your results. Click View Extraction to view the CSV file, or click OK to close.
