Formula Fields Not Visible on Edit Screen in Salesforce Classic vs. Lightning Experience

Beschreibung

When a user creates or edits a record, formula fields are not visible on the Edit page. Formula fields derive their values from saved record data and are therefore not available during the creation of a new record — the field can only display a value once the record has been saved.
This article explains why formula fields do not appear on edit screens and what options are available in Salesforce Classic and Lightning Experience.

Lösung

Why Formula Fields Do Not Show on Edit Screens

Formula fields calculate their value based on other field values on a saved record. Because the values of source fields are not finalized until a record is saved, formula fields cannot display calculated values during the creation or inline editing of a record.

Behavior in Salesforce Classic

Formula fields cannot display on the Edit screen in the Salesforce Classic interface.
If users need to see formula field values in Classic, the following alternatives are available:

  1. Use Inline Editing on the record detail page — users can edit other fields without navigating away from the detail view where formula values are visible.
  2. Override the Edit page with a Visualforce Page that includes the formula field as a read-only display element.

Behavior in Lightning Experience

Formula fields are available and visible in Lightning Experience. After saving a record, the formula field value is displayed on the record detail page.
If users are not seeing formula field values in Lightning Experience, confirm:

  • The formula field is added to the relevant Page Layout.
  • The user has Read access to the formula field via their Profile or Permission Set.
